Life Transitions

Life and Changes

Life will happen whether we want it to or not. This is not to say that transition is easy. It comes to us through our choices or through external influences. Our natural tendency is to resist change and ask; “Why me?!” If we ignore or resist these unavoidable changes, we will only prolong them and experience more difficult circumstances.

Every life transition asks us to let go of a former way of thinking or living. They are opportunities for our growth. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it is the strong person who recognizes his or her need and reaches out.

Embracing Opportunity

There is no single “Cure All” for adjusting to change. Many times, coming to terms with the question; “What do I want?” is the place to start. Other times,  sharing our thoughts and feelings and simply talking with a safe and trusted other does prove healing. In doing so, we embrace the opportunity to replace the old with a new way and build better lives.

Events and Growth

Certain changes, such as entering school, starting a new job or starting a family, can often be exciting. Many people look forward to obtaining a degree, working and excelling in their chosen field, buying a home or starting family. Yet, even though these are considered positive, change brings some level of stress.

Change can encourage the development of personal or professional skills, knowledge and may also bring about greater awareness. It can also help clarify and encourage us to prioritize what is important in life.

Change can influence personal growth and may leave one stronger, more confident and better prepared for the next phase life. In other words, change may be beneficial.
